This is a blog part 2, a continuation of the "Explanation" material, if previously I have discussed the meaning, function, types and structure, now I will discuss about elements of language, language features and passive sentences in explanations.

Because of its analytical nature, the explanatory text uses passive sentences. Passive sentence is a sentence whose subject is subject to an action or activity. 

 You have to learn more about the linguistic elements in the text. Try to read and understand the description of the following material

After you have studied and understood the tools for writing explanatory text above, now you are drafting an explanatory text with the help of the writing organizer below. You also have to study and understand the description of an explanatory text.

 

To make it easier for you to remember and understand the description of this material, read the following summary.

1. In compiling an explanatory text, there are linguistic elements that must be considered

namely: the use of passive and tense sentences.

Rules for changing Active Voice to Passive one:

a) Identify the Subject, the Verb and the Object

b) Change the subject into Subject

c) Put the suitable helping verb or auxiliary verb. In case the helping verb is given, use the same verb but note that the helping verb given agrees with the Object.

d) Change the Verb into the past participle form

e) Add the preposition by

f) Change the Subject into Object

Examples:

a) A letter is written by me.

b) American was discovered by Columbus

c) Macbeth was written by Shakespeare

d) The door was opened by his son

e) The new ideas were suggested by Edo

2. Understand the correct description of the preparation of the explanatory text.

3. Make a draft with the help of a writing organizer so that the resulting text is correct in accordance with the social function, text structure and linguistic elements of an explanatory text.
