How's your day? I hope you stay healthy and happy always๐Ÿ˜‰

My name is Mariam Nur Fairiza from 11th grade IPA 2 . Okay on my blog this time according to the title above I will explain about "Passive Voice"๐Ÿ™Œ

So, what is passive voice?

The passive voice is a relationship between the subject and the verb where the subject receives the action of the verb. In the active sentence, the focus of the sentence is the acting subject. Whereas in passive sentences, the focus is on the person or thing that is affected.

So what's the difference with the active voice? ... Passive voice is used when you want to emphasize what is happening in the subject, not emphasize the verb used. In contrast to the passive voice, the active voice describes the verb in a sentence.

The passive voice is used when the person or thing affected by the main verb is the focus. This sentence is also often used when the person or thing performing the verb is considered unimportant, unknown, or unclear.

Passive Voice Uses and Examples

The passive voice is generally used in the following situations:

  • When the doer of action is unknown

๐Ÿ‘‰My money has been stolen.
In this passive voice example, the speaker doesn't know who stole his wallet.
  • When the perpetrator of the action is clear and does not need to be mentioned
๐Ÿ‘‰Wheat is grown in Karawang.
In this example, it is very clear that the farmer is the perpetrator of the action or the person who grows the wheat.
  • When you don't want to tell who the perpetrator is
๐Ÿ‘‰Mistakes were made.
In this example, the speaker doesn't want to tell who made the mistake.
  • When the doer of action is everyone
๐Ÿ‘‰Transjakarta is used as an alternative means of transportation to avoid traffic jam.
In this example, the perpetrators of the action are everyone because Transjakarta can be used by the wider community.
  • When the action actor has been mentioned in the previous sentence (if it is in a paragraph)
๐Ÿ‘‰Mr. Han caught Ari cheating on the test. Ari was given punishment immediately.
In this passive voice example, Mr. Han as the perpetrator of the action has been mentioned previously so there is no need to add it to the second sentence.

What is the formula for passive voice? what is the difference with the active voice formula?

Active :

S V1 O
๐Ÿ‘‡
Dad washes the car once a week.

Passive :

S to be+V3 O
๐Ÿ‘‡
The car is washed by Dad once a week.

Can you see the difference? Just behind the subject and object. Subject in the active sentence turns into an object in the passive sentence, as well otherwise.

Passive voice forms:

1. Simple Present Tense: Object + am/is/are + V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food is cooked by Alea

2. Simple Past Tense: Object + was/were + V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food was cooked by Alea

3. Simple Future Tense: Object + shall/will + V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food will cooked by Alea

4. Present Continuous Tense: Object + am/is/are + being + V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food is being cooked by Alea

5. Past Continuous Tense: Object + was/were + being+ V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food was being cooked by Alea

6. Future Continuous Tense: Object + shall/will + V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food is going to be cooked by Alea

7. Present Perfect Tense: Object + have/has + been+ V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food has been cooked by Alea

8. Past Perfect Tense: Object + had+ been + V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food had been cooked by Alea

9. Future Perfect Tense: Object + shall/will + have + been + V3 + by + Object/Pronoun

๐Ÿ‘‰The food will have been cooked by Alea
